Clicking the below link will open a Pre-Addressed, Pre-Written email to the County Judge and County Commissioners.

Once the email is opened, please add your own words to the subject line or email body, so that all emails are not exactly the same.

(If everyone's email is different, they are less likely to be blocked by the county's computer system.  Just adding a couple words, like your name, to the email will help. )

After you send your email, please SHARE this page with your friends and family and ask them to do the same.

Body of email (to copy and paste into your email):

The KILL RATE at Harris County animal control was a horrifying 75.44 percent for cats and a pathetic 32.45 percent for dogs in 2016.

A shocking 9,562 pets were killed by Harris County animal control employees.  That equals 26 pets killed every single day in 2016!

As Harris County leadership, you should be horrified and embarrassed that a county department is failing so miserably and lagging so far behind the rest of the country, especially when this issue has a proven solution.

There are now 200+ Open Admission shelters, serving 500+ cities and towns, who are saving all healthy and treatable pets by comprehensively implementing proven No Kill programs.   They are saving 90 - 100 percent of all pets.

You can end the killing of shelter pets in Harris County by instructing shelter management to comprehensively implement those programs.

The lives of shelter pets matter deeply to me. I am a voter and I want my elected officials to address issues that reflect my values.

I do not want my tax dollars used to finance the needless killing of shelter pets, when there are solutions to end it.

Why are we doing this?

Harris County’s taxpayer funded animal control shelter  killed or lost a staggering 9,562 pets in 2016 alone.  That is 26+ pets killed every single day of the year.

It does not have to be this way. It has been proven, by hundreds of Open Admission shelters all over the country that they can transform themselves into No Kill shelters.  There model of sheltering – a groups of programs and services --- that when comprehensively implemented, ends the killing of shelter pets.

Harris County animal control (HCAC) has made some progress over the last few years, and more lives are being saved now than in the past.  However, moving from an “F” to a “D” is not good enough when thousands of pets are still being needlessly killed.

As animal lovers, and taxpayers, we should EXPECT our municipal animal shelter to use the very best practices known, and to work hard, in order to save every healthy and treatable pet.

Elected officials listen to what a large number of voters want.  So, we need all animal lovers to SPEAK and tell the county commissioenrs that this is important to you, as an animal lover and VOTER.

We must SPEAK to ensure that this issue gets on the agenda.  Otherwise, nothing will change.

There are 4.5 million people in Harris County.  That is approximately 2,925,000 pet owners in Harris County.  Our goal is for all 2,925,000 pet owners to ask the County Commissioners to end the killing of shelter pets.   But, it is expensive for us to reach that many people and we need your help.
