* .00156 return rate for cats (i.e. of the 640 cats taken in as strays, only 1 cat was returned to his/her owner for the entire month of August)

* .101 return rate for dogs (dogs faired better i.e. of the 632 dogs taken in as strays, 64 were returned to their owners).

By contrast, Washoe Co's Nevada's animal services returns 65% of animals to their owners. Many never enter the shelter at all.
